What if my choice impacts you?

Sometimes the choices we make will appear to impact other people in a way we are uncomfortable with; indeed our fear of upsetting them can prevent us from making the choice at all.  When we remember that it is their choice how it impacts them, we give ourselves permission to make choices without that burden.

I wrote a blog for Virgin last week about a choice I recently made to fire a client – a brave decision and one that had an impact on the client.  Yesterday I made a choice to say “no” to working with a new client; again a decision that has an impact on them.  I made these choices because they were good for me and my business and my credibility.  In the early days of my business, I would have allowed my fear to impact my choice and probably taken on two clients that were going to prove a bad choice for my business – and probably my health!

Making a choice for ourselves is not about being selfish or irresponsible.  Clearly, there are times when choices must be taken for the good of many not just ourselves.  Be real though – are you using other people as an excuse not to make a choice?  Isn’t it time to change that?

The good news is, it’s up to you!  Choose to change that excuse, to embrace your choice and be brave with it.

Have a wonderful day
